Rev. Evans '01 Returns

Noah Lee '25
Reverend Paul Evans ’01 is no stranger to the St. Christopher’s campus. This year, he is one of the school’s newest religion department members, serving as the Upper School chaplain.
If he looks familiar, that’s probably because you have seen Rev. Evans behind a camera lens instead of a pulpit. After graduating from STC in 2001, he worked in STC’s marketing and communications department from 2016 to 2019. He has also remained connected to the community by keeping up with old friends and attending alumni events. As he worked in communications, he “fell in love with St. Christopher’s” again. In addition to his regular duties, Rev. Evans was able to “spread his wings” by coaching seventh-grade baseball and serving as an Upper School advisor.
The Reverend grew up as a Roman Catholic and was confirmed just up the road at St. Bridget Church. However, it was only later in life that he decided “it was time to explore a call into ministry” while becoming more entwined with the Episocopal church through work with St. Stephens Church and an old mentor, Mr. David Anderson, a past chaplain in the Upper School. Rev. Evans occupied a variety of roles at different churches before returning to St. Chris. campus this fall.
Away from work, Reverend Evans describes feeling most alive when on the water of the Piankatank River, which is near Deltaville, Virginia. Visiting the river both improves his connection with spirituality and peace.
As he settles into his new position, the Reverend emphasizes his desire to “listen and figure out the community” as he learns the ropes of a new role. He is excited to inspire students in new ways of thinking and stresses to consider “what gives you joy,  and how can you use that joy to serve others.” To him, “that’s what vocation is: a calling.”
Lastly, Rev. Evans hopes to be an approachable new face with an “open door policy,” giving students opportunities to sit in his office and chat on good and bad days. Whether it be sitting down, eating lunch or just having a quick chat, he looks forward to meeting new faces and re-immersing himself into the St. Christopher’s community.
